You have decided to make a health change to overcome an addiction.
With addictions concerning eating, shopping, sex, etc. we cannot cut out the habit to beat it. We must find a healthy balance.
To overcome any addiction, we must set realistic goals and put a plan in place.
Prepare for your new journey. If junk food is the focus for example, eliminate unhealthy foods. Focus on eating healthy. Clean out the cupboards and refrigerator in your home so that unhealthy foods are not available to feed the addiction. Before eating, ask yourself, “do I need this to stay healthy?”
With overcoming any addiction, surround yourself with people that support your healthy goals.
Acknowledge your victories as they happen. If you slip, get back up and continue with your goals. Do not let one slip cancel your plans.
Envision yourself without addiction. See yourself as though you have already reached your goal.
